/ OIE Training Workshop on GIS for Animal Health
Management 1-3 July 2009, Chiangmai, Thailand
Geographical
Information Systems (GIS) have become an essential tool
in the understanding and management of animal disease.
This can provide valuable assistance in a range of tasks,
including: describing the level and distribution of
disease, assessing the efficacy of control programs
across space, development of zones for disease control,
exploring spatially-linked risk factors and management
of animal health emergencies.
The
Training Workshop on GIS for Animal Health Management
will be conducted jointly by FAO APHCA, the OIE SEAFMD
and the FAO Projects on information management systems
in the Philippines on 1-3 July 2009 in Chiangmai, Thailand.

- "The
2nd Regional Workshop on Brucellosis Diagnosis
and Control, with an Emphasis on Brucella melitensis"
will be jointly organized
by the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia
and the Pacific of the Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FAO-APHCA) and the World Organization
for Animal Health (OIE) [in collaboration with the Thai
Department of Livestock Development (DLD)], in Tha-Phra,
Khon Kaen Province, Thailand, during 8-11 June 2009.
Twenty
participants (government officials) from FAO-APHCA and
OIE member countries in Asia-Pacific Region will be
invited. The main resource persons are from the OIE/FAO
Reference Laboratory for Brucellosis (in France) and
the National Institute of Animal Health (NIAH) of Thailand.
The
main objectives of this workshop are:
-
To follow-up on Brucellosis situation in Asia and
the Pacific with an emphasis on updated epidemiological
situation of B. melitensis in the Region;
-
To update (to participants) protocol development for
control of Brucellosis;
-
To update hands-on trainings on standard laboratory
tests for diagnosis of Brucellosis (B. melitensis);
and
-
To promote collaboration on diagnosis and control
of B. melitensis in the Region.
