Duties and Responsibilitiess

The Livestock Waste Management in East Asia’ project is funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) through World Bank.  The five year project is designed to assist China, Thailand and Vietnam, countries in which waste generated by rapidly expanding livestock sectors is causing significant environmental and public health problems. The assistance includes waste management technology demonstrations, policy and regulatory development, monitoring of the outcomes and regional synergies and mutual learning. FAO is also a grant recipient under this project, with particular responsibility for providing regional support services, including decision support tool development and regional coordination and dissemination.
The consultant will assist FAO and the country in the identification and development of a decision support tools for as the design and evaluation of manure management strategies, including appropriate technologies to be used, as well as a plans for installation and operation.
The Consultant will work under the overall supervision of the Regional Facilitation Office (RFO) in RAP and the specific technical supervision of the Livestock Policy Officer in HQ in close collaboration with the Project Management Offices in the country and their subject matter experts, the other project consultants and the farmers. His/her specific tasks are to:

  1. Coordinate with Project Management Office (PMO), government officials, FAO officers, international consultants, international and national experts in development of DST for manure technology;
  2. Consolidate data and experts knowledge to support the DST preparation for the specific purposes of the country;
  3. Assist international consultants, FAO officers, and the PMO in Manure Technology DST Workshop;
  4. Consolidate of potential users’ feedback on the DST;
  5. Prepare a note for use by FAO and project partners with detailed recommendations for the development of a decision support tool on manure technology, on the basis of the workshop results and work done during the project preparation phase.
Requirements

The consultant must have an advanced degree in environmental sciences, 5 years of relevant experience in manure management technology and/or fertilization plans – nutrient fluxes modelling.
